HydroFLOW™ How it works...

The HydroFLOW™ Water Conditioner, an easily installed, eco-friendly device that inhibits the formation of scale and bio-film, without costly treatment programs.

Based on over twenty-five years of experience, the HydroFLOW™ water conditioner provides an eco-friendly solution for the protection of any process water system from the harmful effects of limescale, bacteria, algae and bio-fouling.

Installed on the exterior of any piping system or pipe material, the HydroFLOW™ device employs a ferrite ring to apply an oscillating 150 kHz frequency that penetrates the pipe wall and travels both upstream and downstream from the point of installation.  The water within the piping system, acts as a conduit to propagate the signal throughout the system, conditioning the water, whether it is moving or stationary.  Testing has proven that the Hydropath signal is more efficient and effective than similar water conditioning technologies.

The water solution typically contains minerals, such as calcium carbonate, dissolved in the form of ions.  Evaporation concentrates the dissolved minerals.  When the temperature of the solution increases, or its pressure drops, the solution becomes supersaturated which causes the dissolved ions to precipitate out of solution, adhering to piping and equipment surfaces in the form of scale.

The HydroFLOW™ signal induces the dissolved minerals to cluster and precipitate as stable crystals that remain in suspension and do not adhere to piping and equipment surfaces.  Likewise, the signal disrupts the growth of bacteria and algae, causing them to perish; biofilm colonies detach from pipe and equipment surfaces.  The suspended particles, either mineral or biological, are filtered or flushed out with the process blowdown.

Common problems for HydroFLOW™ solutions:

  • Source water high In Calcium hardness.  Hard source water requires greater volumes of make-up water to dilute the concentrated minerals that build-up in cooling water recirculating water.  Dilution of the water helps to prevent internal surfaces of the tower, fill, and chiller m scaling, but it results in additional water charges.
  • High Blowdown discharges to the municipal sewer:  To prevent scaling of tower internal surfaces and chiller tubes, circulating water from the cooling system must be continuous discharged or blown down to the sewer.  Not only are charges incurred for the purchase of the water, but sewer costs are often higher.
  • Scaling of the chiller tubes and fill:  Attempting to reduce water consumption, often leads to over concentration of the dissolved minerals in the recirculating water, causing it to precipitate and to adhere to the internal surfaces of the system as a hard concreate-like coating.
  • Loss of heat transfer efficiency:  The coating or scale acts as insulation, lowering the heat transfer efficiency of the chiller tubes.
  • Corrosion of cooling system piping, tower internals, and chiller tubes:  All internal surfaces of the cooling system are subject to the corrosive effects of water, oxygen and galvanic action.  Without proper inhibition, equipment can prematurely fail.

Benefits
  • Elimination of scale and Biofouling without chemicals:  The oscillating 150 kHz signal induces dissolved minerals to cluster and precipitate in solution, instead of on to equipment surfaces, such as tubesheets, heat exchanger tubes, and tower fill.
  • Remineralization / softening of existing scale, resulting in reduced maintenance costs for pipeline, heat exchanger tubes, and tower cleanings.  The HydroFLOW™ technology softens existing scale, facilitating removal without damage to equipment from harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.  Left alone, scale will dissolve or be removed by agitation from turbulent flow.
  • Increased energy efficiency, due to elimination of insulating scale and bio-fouling adhering to heat transfer surfaces.  Energy savings ranging from 5% - 10% are achievable.
  • Improved corrosion protection:
    • Cooling towers:  Operation of circulating water at higher pH promotes magnetite formation on carbon steel surfaces and protects against pitting/crevice corrosion.
    • Boilers:  For boilers that operate with softened water, HydroFLOW™ technology reduces carbon dioxide (CO2) carryover into condensate return piping, reducing corrosion potential and the need for neutralizing and filming amines.
  • Reduced water consumption:  The HydroFLOW™ technology controls scale allowing higher cycles of concentration for cooling towers and boilers.  Higher cycles results in lower blowdown and less make-up, conserving water and dollars.
